As the airplane soared through the clouds to a well-deserved vacation, I had this feeling that something was not right. Troy had not uttered two words to me. Did I do something wrong? Did I forget something at work and he had to put out the fire yesterday? As I recall, everything was on schedule. I had been working like crazy the past two months to make sure nothing would interfere with our trip. We had not been on a real vacation in a long time. I couldn't remember the last time we went away alone. In my opinion, I thought everything was going well between us. This would have be the time for us to relax and enjoy being with our friends and each other. All of the wildness was out of me. I really had to thank him for putting up with me. I was such a difficult man. He didn't know how much I admired and appreciated him. I was more in love with him on this day than ever before.

When we were at Ethan and Aaron's house last night, he didn't want to have anything to do with me. When we arrived back at their house from the play, he got out of the limousine, congratulated them on their engagement, got into his car and left. Was he jealous that his best friend was getting married? We had been together for fourteen years, and the thought of marriage never crossed my mind. For our fifteenth anniversary, we would have a commitment ceremony. I would begin preparations as soon as we get back from Puerto Vallarta.

He didn't get home until two this morning, and was gone by seven thirty. He didn't give me his usual goodnight kiss before he went to sleep, or did he give me his usual good morning kiss before he left. He arrived back home by one thirty, just enough time for us to leave for the airport. By then, I knew he was avoiding me.

We rode in silence to the airport. After the driver unloaded the luggage at our departure terminal, he walked inside and left me outside to check in our luggage. Still, he didn't speak to me. I just didn't know what I did or didn't do. I cleared my throat on several occasions to see if he would respond, but not a word from his mouth.

When we boarded the plane, our seats were near the back and not as close as Ethan and Aaron. After we settled and the plane taxied off the runway, I pulled out our bag with the portable CD players and headphones. I noticed he had gotten a new CD from Queen. Queen always put the best music together. I put the CD in, placed my headphones on my ears and pushed the random button. The first song that played was Al Green's "Let's Stay Together."

I had to admit our relationship had been anything but perfect, but we always seemed to manage. For the past year, I had been completely faithful.
